Biodiversity Futures: Can AI and Emerging Tech Help Protect Africa’s Ecosystems?
Join us for a vibrant discussion salon to bring together professionals interested in international climate, nature, and tech issues as we kick-off PNW Climate Week!
Both the PNW and Africa have rich forest and innovation ecosystems with lessons to offer the world on climate and nature action. What are the possibilities of using technology such as AI to promote positive climate and nature futures for Africa, the Global South, and beyond? As one of the most populous and biodiverse continents in the world, Africa's biodiversity and its conservation plays a critical role for our global carbon uptake. Our event will explore innovative approaches to biodiversity protection and how emerging technologies such as AI can be used to protect global biodiversity from threats such as illegal logging. The event will include a networking mixer and a facilitated, interactive discussion by Kidan Araya, the founder of Africa Climate x Nature Salon, 2025 MIT Reality Hack Scholar, and an Official U.S. Congressional Witness on illegal logging of forests in Africa. Guest speakers include Gordon Okumu, founder of Angels of Africa, an NGO empowering African communities in the wake of environmental degradation and climate change.
Whether your work touches Africa, AI, and/or global development issues with government, NGOs, academia, tech, or the private sector, or you are interested in exploring questions around how technology can be used for good, this is the place to connect with like-minded professionals and discuss fresh insights.
We'll have complimentary drinks and small bites for the group. To foster an intentional space for meaningful conversations and valuable professional connections, we're limiting attendance to a select, small group. We will announce the venue closer to the date.
