About Event

HGAPS will be hosting Dr. Anna Van Meter for her presentation, Beyond SnapChat and Instagram: Leveraging Technology to Improve Outcomes for Young People with Mental Health Concerns. Her work is supported by grants from the National Institute for Mental Health and has been recognized by several national awards (detailed below). Of note, Dr. Van Meter received her PhD here at UNC Chapel Hill before joining the faculty at Yeshiva University and then moving to the Department of Psychiatry at Zucker Hillside/Northwell Hospital, and she has mentored several UNC students over the years, coaching them on projects where they were authors presenting at national meetings as well as peer reviewed publications. Her work is innovative, as attested to multiple national awards and honors, four NIH-funded early career programs--a K award and the Career Development Institute for Bipolar Disorder, the Child Intervention, Prevention and Services Fellowship, and the Kalvi Summer Institute in Cognitive Neuroscience. She was selected as a Rising Star by the Association for Psychological Science, recognized with the Richard Abidin Early Career Award by the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and selected for the prestigious young investigator award by the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, along with multiple other awards geared towards groundbreaking and creative approaches. Participants of this webinar will learn about associations between social media use and mental health and about the potential for technology-based tools to help improve the mental health of young people.
