Spring Houseplant Swap @ Kinfolx
Join Kinfolx and Jas and Olive on May 15th for a houseplant swap event!
Whether you’re a beginner, a seasoned plant collector, or somewhere in between, come connect with fellow plant lovers and grow your collection. Jasmine Neal, a self-taught plant researcher, will share a brief update on her work to launch a plant-focused community biology lab in the East Bay. Evan Groover, a plant synthetic biologist, will lead a short group discussion on democratizing gene editing by making CRISPR accessible to independent researchers, farmers, breeders, and agronomists.
🌱 What to expect
6:00 pm-6:30 pm: Mingling
6:30 pm-7:00 pm: Collective conversation about CRISPR and democratizing plant biology research
7:00 pm-7:45 pm: Plant swap, raffles, and mingling
Wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, and you’ll have the chance to win houseplant accessories in our raffle.
♻️ Plant swap guidelines
We kindly ask that you bring cuttings or plants in 2” or 4” nursery pots.
Ensure each plant is labeled. Scientific names are preferred but common names work too.
If you’d like to buy a plant for the event, consider sourcing your plant from POC-owned East Bay plant shops such as Blk Girls Green House, Pamana Plantas, and Planterday.
After the event, be sure to quarantine your new plant for 1-2 weeks. Check for signs of pests or stress and treat accordingly before adding it to your plant collection.
