Building for a Global Market

This month’s Raid The Fridge session will help you understand how Expedock, a logistics tech startup founded in 2019 by Filipino entrepreneurs in their 20s, grew its business and now serves a global customer base.

Why Attend?
Have a conversation with Expedock co-founders Jeff Tan (COO) and Jig Young (CPO) about what they did to build a company that now serves a global customer base — the founders’ mindset, the product roadmap, growing the team, etc.

What are the lessons learned by Expedock that you can apply to your role in a tech startup or company?

If your middle name is “Scale the Business,” this Raid The Fridge session is for you.

Who Should Attend?

Young entrepreneurs; tech founders and teams figuring out their path to scaling beyond the Philippines; corporates and other stakeholders interested in learning from the Expedock experience, a logistics tech company.

JEFF TAN | COO and Founder
Jeff graduated from Ateneo De Manila in 2020 with a major in Information Technology Entrepreneurship (ITE) & Computer Science. Following graduation, he embarked on a career journey that led to his pivotal role as Freight Manager and Tech Lead at CNT Worldwide Transport Inc., one of the leading freight forwarders in the Philippines.

During his tenure at CNT, Jeff keenly observed the inefficiencies caused by outdated technological processes within the industry. Recognizing the opportunity to innovate and bridge this gap, he co-founded Expedock with his co-founders, King Alandy Dy and Jig Young. As the COO of Expedock, Jeff plays a crucial role in driving the company's operations and strategic initiatives forward.

JIG YOUNG | Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder
Jig is a homegrown tech talent. He started his career when he left school for 18 months to work at Kalibrr, the first YC startup in the Philippines, where he led marketplace go-to-market and growth. At 19, Jig helped Kalibrr grow to 14K users a week, and by 20, he helped it grow again from 200 to 600K users by leading Kalibrr’s expansion to Indonesia.

After Kalibrr, Jig worked as a product strategist at First Circle, a B2B Supply Chain lending and factoring startup. He used customer discovery and product-market fit experimentation to identify deployment opportunities with the best ROI for their US$20M capital. As their first Filipino PM, he led teams that built most of the core tech that First Circle still runs on today.

Concurrent to First Circle, Jig founded and bootstrapped Taikuun.com (now inactive), a B2B marketplace. Taikuun struggled in its first three years, but a six-month experimentation as a B2B freight forwarding marketplace led to the discovery of Expedock’s foundational problem in freight forwarding, which is credited for providing the proper foundation for Expedock to take off.

The takeaway: Jig’s experiences with different startups taught him to go global from Day 1 at Expedock after years of not doing so.

In 2023, Jig and his co-founders at Expedock were recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30.
