VMS Gallery, Bellevue, WA opens February 2, 2024 with an inaugural exhibit of local lens-based artists who use photography to explore experimental forms of image creation.

Bellevue, WA: VMS Gallery is opening February 2, 2024 in the BelRed Art District at Venture Mechanics Coworking Studios. The “f/5.6 Group” exhibition features the work of eight local artists from the Puget Sound photography collective f/5.6 Group. The exhibition will be up from February 2 through May 2.

This group exhibition is a collaboration between local creatives and Venture Mechanics, to showcase local art and expose the community to the broader services provided in the Bel Red coworking space.

About the Space:

“Venture Mechanics mission is to empower innovators of all kinds in the Pacific Northwest. A huge part of what we are building here is an effective ecosystem for creators to collaborate in person” says CEO Ron Wiener. “We want to develop a welcoming community hub for like minded creative organizations and the deep, untapped  pool of creative talent we know exists here in the Pacific Northwest. Thus, we worked to create a space and opportunities  for them in the form of the VMS Gallery.”

About the Artists:

The f/5.6 Group started back in 1996 by a small group of art photography creators that were not interested in the equipment used as much as the pictures being made. This small group of four friends, with an idea grew into a much larger fine art photography collective of over 70 members by the time it was disbanded in 2015. Since then, the f/5.6 Group stayed in touch via email and the very infrequent gatherings of some of the hold-overs.

Fast forward to today, the “f/5.6 Group” exhibition is being mounted in an effort to demonstrate that the Puget Sound photography community is still active and doing great work. Artist Philip Malkin approached TJ Lamb during a meet and greet of the BelRed Community Art Alliance and hatched the plan to exhibit visual artists at Venture Mechanic’s offices. They agreed that the inaugural exhibit theme would be art and technology to echo the mission of Venture Mechanics.

The current exhibition has been curated by Philip Malkin, associate of the f/5.6 Group and TJ Lamb, fellow creative and Community Director at Venture Mechanics.

Participating artists include; Jan Bogel, Alan Chait, Monica Danos, Ron Hammond, Sally Kim-Miller, Louise Katzman Kurabi, Philip Malkin, and Christopher Petrich.
