Can globalization exist in a tech-saturated world?

​As the world has become more globalized over the last decade, the second-order consequences of technological development have become more pronounced than ever before. Typically, past attempts at globalization have culminated in chaos as with the world wars of the 20th century. 

​This time may not be different. We have the proliferation of nuclear bombs, biological super-viruses and punitive deep fakes that may end the globalized experiment once and for all. This begs the question: How can technology be used for grand and utopian purposes, and can globalization exist in a tech-saturated world?
