Junto: Robosexuality - Embrace or Condemn
Warning ⚠️ : You should only apply to join this conversation if you are not offended by other group member's controversial opinions and are planning to actively participate in the discussion.
Embrace: The rise of advanced sex robots could democratize sexual fulfillment beyond traditional human limitations, potentially reducing sex crimes and human trafficking while providing companionship for those isolated by geography, disability, or social challenges in an increasingly disconnected world.
Condemn: The normalization of robotic sexual partners threatens to commodify intimacy completely, potentially accelerating declining birth rates while reinforcing problematic power dynamics as predominantly male consumers design submissive female replicas with physically impossible proportions and personalities programmed for constant affirmation without challenge.
Open questions for consideration: As this technology becomes increasingly sophisticated, where do we draw ethical boundaries regarding consent simulation, child-like models, or robotic embodiments of real people without their permission?
How might widespread adoption of robotic intimate partners transform our fundamental social structures—from marriage and family formation to gender relations and population stability.
What is a Junto?
Benjamin Franklin founded the Junto Club as a way to discuss morals, politics, and natural philosophy to improve themselves and their community. The club was initially composed of twelve members who met on Friday evenings.
Our debates were to be conducted in the sincere spirit of inquiry after truth, without fondness for dispute or desire of victory. - Benjamin Franklin
