About Event

We’re over the moon to announce our very first film photography WORKSHOP. Spend the afternoon in the studio with artist and educator Grace Ann Leadbeater learning + shooting manual.

If you’ve had a 35mm or medium format film camera sitting around for forever, and/or are terrified to come off of auto, this one’s for you <3

We’ll begin with film camera (very) basics covering: loading film, manually focusing, testing & reading your light meter, using a virtual light meter, adjusting for lights & shadows, shooting manually and composition. Each person will get hands-on support setting their camera up as needed! We’ll then put it all to practice in the studio, shooting portraits of one another, a still life setup and anything else that catches you eye. We'll wrap with a final troubleshooting Q&A! A shared google drive folder will be set out to share our photos <3

Please note! Everyone will need to download the light meter app, which is $10 in the app store prior to class. You can also opt for a physical light meter if you have a tested, working one!

Bring your own camera, or choose ‘borrow one of ours!’ at checkout.

Hot bevvies will be provided! See you there <3

What can I expect from a workshop at RecCreate?

Workshops at RecCreate are like the art school education your parents never let you get, at a tiny fraction of the price lead by NYC’s most talented creatives + educators. Our emphasis is on education, creative exploration and tool proficiency.

About Your Instructor

Grace Ann Leadbeater is an artist and educator invested in the relationship between image, text, and object. She found photography at eight years old when her parents gave her a 35mm camera while traveling around Nova Scotia. Since then, she’s developed a democratic approach to image-making, believing everything is photographable. Currently, Grace Ann lives in New York.
