Victory Over Life: Diogenes the Cynic
"Many men compete in digging and kicking, but no one at all in the pursuit of human excellence." —Diogenes of Sinope
What if there was a shortcut to philosophy and virtue, hiding in plain sight?
The remarkable life of Diogenes suggests there might be, but it's not going to look like what you think it will.
Diogenes was the father of Ancient Cynicism, which is very different than what we call cynicism.
We'll be reading from Diogenes the Cynic: Sayings and Anecdotes.
Please read Part 1, Section 4: Self-Characterization. We'll read it together at the beginning of our meeting. So if you're too busy to study it in advance, you'll still be on the same page with us.
While reading, try to prepare some written observations, or at the very least some questions for discussion.
I'll begin with some remarks on what I find most interesting, but these meetings are primarily for you to develop your own ideas around the material.
Note: Events are free for members (check your email for your discount code, or just ask me for it).
If you have any questions, just reply to any Other Life email.
