Theme: How do we put fashion from Africa on the map in the Netherlands?
Fashion from Africa often receives limited attention in the Netherlands, overshadowed by European and Western styles. Despite its rich diversity, craftsmanship, cultural significance, and global expansion, African fashion remains underrepresented in Dutch media, retail, and fashion events, missing out on the recognition it deserves. This evening is organized for like-minded individuals to explore how we can elevate African fashion and the people driving the industry within the Dutch context.
About Carmen Hogg:
Carmen (MSc) is a style anthropologist, writer, cultural consultant, and moderator whose practice is rooted in research into fashion and popular culture. Over the past few years, her focus has been on contemporary fashion from both Europe and Africa. Her mission is to celebrate the brands and individuals that inspire her and to bring them to a broader international audience. Carmen’s latest venture, Showroom, is a retail outlet and creative studio launched in partnership with photographer Coco Olakunle. She is on a dedicated mission to promote African fashion in the Netherlands and to showcase the beauty, talent, and industries of African brands and designers.
