About Event

Join us for a Covid Conscious, iconic, queer, partner (or solo) Hustle dance and class social on June 14th from 5-9pm! Come early to class at 5pm, and join us for a social afterwards from 6-9pm. No dance experience is needed. All are welcome, let's just dance and have fun! We will have lots of seating for rest.

Sliding scale $0-$20, all proceeds go to fundraise for a community member’s housing. Payments will be made during the event using Venmo/Cash app

Hustle is important to and shaped by Black communities in the US, especially the Black Puerto Rican community. Originally developed in house parties by resilient Puerto Rican youth from South of Bronx as an antidote to socio-economic oppression in the 70s, and later spread to Queer night clubs. The dance style is deeply fluid, expansive, fun and pulls from many dance styles: swing, salsa, mambo, smooth ballroom etc.

KN95+ masks are required to stay on at all times with extra masks provided. Non alcoholic drinks will also be provided and you may sip your drinks through your drinking valve or walk 30 feet off the venue and away from others to unmask. A limited number of drinking valves will be available for distribution (and we’re happy to show you how to install them) or you can buy some for yourself ahead of time at sipmask.com

Participants will need to take a rapid COVID test 48hrs and 24hrs before the event. Please reach out to event hosts for free tests.

The venue is a standalone garage in the Central District (near the Grocery Outlet)The specific address will be sent to registered individuals the day before the event.

The garage’s doors/windows will be open for airflow, with air purifiers running and far UV lights on. The capacity for this event is 30 people, so please cancel your registration if you can no longer make it.

Accessibility: There is seating for 20-30 people on couches/armchairs in the garage and lots of free street parking in the neighborhood. Dress for whatever temperature is outside since the garage temperature is the same as outside. The garage can be accessed via a sloped gravel and grass path to its main door, or a paved path to its back door which has a raised lip you must go over to enter. Bathrooms will be available inside. There are 2 steps to get inside the house.

Music: Original Hustle soundtracks are Latin, Soul and R&B but the dance style is deeply malleable, meaning we can dance to any kind of music, so reach out to hosts for song requests.
