Join our art historians and art experts on exclusive guided tours through selected galleries. The Art Walks offer unique insights into current exhibitions, exciting artistic positions, and curatorial concepts.
Art Walk 7 leads through galleries around Fasanenstraße. It begins with Horst Antes at Meyer Riegger – a key figure of the New Figuration movement. His iconic “head-footers,” portraits, and house paintings combine force, structure, and enigma. For Antes, painting does not function as narration, but rather as a dense form of presence. A retrospective of the legendary 1993 exhibition The Art of Survival/Baby Doll Saloon is presented by Mehdi Chouakri with works by Sylvie Fleury and Angela Bulloch – a playful yet critical engagement with glamor, consumerism, and artistic self-staging. Galerie Friese shows text-based works by Dieter Krieg, oscillating between monumental painting and literary reflection. Sartre, Beckett, and Flaubert appear as silent companions in his expressive image-text compositions. More restrained, yet no less intense: Anne Imhof at Galerie Buchholz with Cold Hope – digitally altered painterly abstractions based on film stills that speak of intimacy, youth, and painful beauty. The tour ends at CFA, where Tobias Spichtig’s Taxi to Art references Berlin nightlife and 1980s aesthetics. His ghostly, vampire-like figures move between coolness, irony, and a subtle sense of unease.
