About Event

What does decentralized AI mean for public services – and why does it matter now?

We invite you to take part in the third IDEA Hub event, supported by Enterprise Estonia (EIS) and the Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs, with the latter's contribution being also made possible through the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

While most of the AI spotlight has focused on large centralized models, Europe is moving in a different direction: toward decentralized, sovereign, and open AI systems.

The EU’s Common European Data Spaces, Gaia-X architecture, and growing investments in open-source foundation models like Meta LLaMA, Google Gemma and Mistral reflect a clear shift toward collaborative, verifiable AI development – built around interoperability, transparency, and shared control.

But decentralized AI is not just a technical choice — it’s about who controls the infrastructure, how data is governed, and who gets to shape AI’s impact on society. Unlike traditional distributed AI, which often serves a single central goal, decentralized AI supports shared governance, domain-specific autonomy, and public-sector alignment.

This event will explore:
– Real-life use cases and technical patterns for decentralized AI in public services
– Key technologies like federated learning, privacy-preserving computation, blockchain coordination, and open-source governance
– How Estonia’s X-Road, Bürokratt, and modular e-government systems could support next-generation AI infrastructures and path the way

💡 For public sector experts, developers, data architects, researchers, and decision-makers.

🗓 Event Agenda:

13:00 – Doors open: welcome snacks & drinks

13:15 – Opening remarks and framing of the topic

13:25 – Opening remarks & Public sector perspectives: setting the context
