About Event

This is an in-person event.

Stolen nudes. Deepfaked porn/Image-based abuse. Stalking. Death and rape threats. Sextortion. Doxxing.

These are just some ways technology is being weaponized to cause harm. Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) targets all women but is particularly pervasive among those women and girls with intersecting identities. This has a detrimental silencing effect and serious consequences for democracies and societies.

Whether it’s raising awareness about intimate-partner violence through film (It Ends With Us), exploring the coexistence of tender and toxic masculinity in rural India (Lapaata Ladies), or exposing systemic failures in supporting survivors of sexual assault (Unbelievable), media has created powerful moments of recognition and advocacy for survivors.

Women in the creative media industry, especially out-spoken creators, producers and celebrities, are often targeted with abuse due to their large following and capacity to create real change. How can media professionals tell the stories of survivors of TF GBV and advocate for social justice at the same time as protecting their own safety and wellbeing? These are questions we are eager to explore with you all.

Hosted by UNFPA and Chayn, in this unique event, we will bring together organisations and people from media, civil society and survivors to discuss ways to catalyse the movement to end TF GBV.
