About Event

Welcome to Sanctuary Computer’s second ChinatownJS meetup! We're excited to bring the development community together to learn from one another, build connections, and celebrate the craftsmanship and conceptual possibilities of Javascript. Whether you’re a pro Typescript developer, student interested in technology, or curious neighbor, all are welcome!

This event will feature three 10-minute talks by developers in the community. To submit a talk, please visit our Github.

We will provide a spread of local delicacies (read: dumplings), as well as beers and nonalcoholic drinks.

Speaker 1
Pei Barth Wu The Limit Does Not Exist

When you scroll a website, how do you imagine where the obscured part of the document is coming from? Most of the websites we use on a day to day basis are bounded on the left and right edge of the screen, and not from the top or below, which uses the visual metaphor of a giant scroll of paper. How does spatial boundary setting affect the experience of space on a screen? How can we use js to manipulate perceptions of space on a screen? As webGL becomes more common, how can boundary setting and define 3D space on the internet?

Speaker 2
Cory Etzkorn Tools You Know

The best tools are the tools you know! Every time I start a new project I'm bombarded with new frameworks and fancy new tools. Instead of building my ideas, I end spending all of my time learning new tools. This talk is about choosing a productive stack and sticking with it.

Speaker 3
Nahee Kim NSFW Introduction to TCP/IP Headers

TCP and IP are the protocols we use every day for most online activities. They are integral to the history of the Internet, starting from when they were first proposed as part of DARPA's communication strategy for maintaining robust communication networks during emergencies. The TCP/IP protocol suite was specifically designed to ensure reliable data transmission across this resilient network, enabling different types of computers to communicate seamlessly. However, aside from IP addresses with numbers and dots and routers with Wi-Fi access info, these protocols are mostly hidden from the interfaces we use as users or developers. This talk aims to introduce these elusive protocols with special diagrams and a playful, sensual language.
