New York City Celebration of 'ASCENDING'
👋🏾 Brown Girl Magazine cordially invites you to an exclusive screening and celebration of Goldenvoice’s documentary short ‘ASCENDING’ – South Asian Artists at Coachella 2023 — from filmmakers Zoe Malhotra & Meghna Chakraborty.
For the first time ever, 'ASCENDING' premiered on Coachella’s YouTube platform on January 16, 2024, and we have the unique opportunity to co-host the screening and gather for a special evening of music, community and celebration with drinks and bites on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 6PM-10PM at 100 Sutton (100 Sutton St #2FL Brooklyn, NY 11222).
The evening includes back-to-back screenings, a talk back with the filmmakers, and a few South Asian-founded indie businesses displaying and selling their products (perfectly timed for your Coachella trip in April).✨
Bites will be served & a cash bar will be available for purchase.
We hope you will join us with a friend or two on Tuesday in Brooklyn!💖
ASCENDING captures a groundbreaking moment in global music at Coachella 2023, where six South Asian artists redefine the festival experience and global music landscape. Featuring exclusive interviews alongside onstage, backstage, and archival footage, ASCENDING documents the historic performances of Ali Sethi, Charli XCX, Diljit Dosanjh, Jai Paul, Jai Wolf, and Joy Crookes – exploring the range of artistic identities, musical influences, and cultural expressions that reflect the multiformity of South Asia. This is the flagship project in Coachella’s new year-round YouTube content strategy.
