Art of the Essay: Seneca "On the Shortness of Life"
It recently occurred to me that the two most important contemporary writing forms—the newsletter and the tweet—are both essentially essays.
So we should study the essay form. Beginning with one of the earliest sources for the modern essay form, Seneca.
Read one of his most famous essays, arguably his finest: On the Shortness of Life.
While reading, please prepare some written observations, or at the very least some questions for discussion.
I'll begin with some remarks on what I find most interesting, but these meetings are primarily for you to develop your own ideas around the material.
