One Ocean Foundation and Spin Ventures Unite for Ocean Conservation
Following the success of the Ocean Street initiative launched in 2022, One Ocean Foundation and Spin Ventures are thrilled to announce their continued collaboration to advance ocean conservation efforts. In 2022, the initiative successfully removed 2,400 kg of abandoned fishing nets from the ocean to create 80 flowerpots in Via Gesù, Milan.
With the imminent arrival of regulatory mandates such as CSRD, CSDDD, and EPR in Europe, corporations must now analyse their supply and value chains to mitigate their impact on the ocean. One Ocean Foundation has been developing the Ocean Disclosure Initiative to measure and disclose the impact of business on marine environments: the project is part of the multi-year research “Business for Ocean Sustainability” conducted in collaboration with SDA Bocconi School of Management Sustainability Lab, McKinsey & Company and CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas). Spin Ventures, an ecosystem focusing on decarbonizing the consumer and retail sector, joins this effort to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable ocean economy.
As part of Ocean Week 2024, One Ocean Foundation and Spin Ventures are organising an invitation-only breakfast on Saturday, June 8th, at the Four Seasons in Via Gesù, Milan. This exclusive event aims to bring together startups, corporates, and investors to transform the conversation into actionable steps for ocean sustainability.
Innovations discussed will include:
Assessment of Product Impact: Evaluating environmental footprints throughout the product life cycle.
New Manufacturing Strategies: Implementing eco-design principles and regenerative practices to enhance sustainability.
Recycling and New BioMaterials: Advancing the recycling of materials and the development of bio-based alternatives to reduce reliance on traditional plastics.
Eco Design: Focusing on designing products that are both sustainable and recyclable, contributing to a circular economy.
