


📖 Ocean Storytelling in Action (Screenings & Panel) — UNOC Nice 2025
​🎬 This event pairs three short ocean documentaries (15 minutes total) with a panel of leaders tackling ocean issues through action. Compelling stories stem from real impact, from local projects to global policy.
​Panelists will break down how they drive solutions, from community efforts to international frameworks, showing what fuels powerful narratives. Attendees will also learn high-level storytelling techniques to apply to their own work, while the focus remains on the actions shaping ocean solutions. This event informs and motivates audiences to engage with our greatest ocean challenges.
​🎥 Screenings
​Impossible Cleanups (3:40): A mission to the stunning, remote UNESCO World Heritage Site, Henderson Island, to take on the impossible cleanup.
​Humanatee (6:50): A poignant tale of an explorer’s friendship with manatees.
​Turning the Tide (3:00): A UN documentary promotion with Francois Bailet, showcasing a high-level UN global program educating nations about ocean governance. (Or Peni’s Last Catch, 3:00, the story of a local tribe establishing a marine protected area.)

​Moderated by Ricky Rhodes, Oscar-qualifying film director and UN DOALOS ocean documentarian, the panel features:
​Simon Bernard, Plastic Odyssey co-founder, pioneering large-scale plastic pollution solutions.
​Francois Bailet, UN Senior Legal Officer, shaping international ocean policy.
​Patricia Ricard, Chairwoman of the Paul Ricard Oceanography Institute, IUCN Patron of Nature in 2024.
​Sylvia Earle, American marine biologist, oceanographer, explorer, author, and lecturer
​Damien Leloup, manatee advocate and former crew member on Jacques Cousteau's ship Calypso
