About Event

Join us on April 2nd at UTC 14:00 for a talk on "Wildlife Filmmaking for Rangers, Trackers, and Guides" by David McGowan - an Academy Award nominated filmmaker.

Dave's career spans 30+ years making films for government agencies and not-for-profit orgs on various conservation and environmental issues. McGowan has filmed a wide range of biodiversity, from bacteria to bats, and in a multitude of environments; caves, swamps, deserts, and mountain tops.

Rangers, trackers, and guides are the front line in wildlife management. Mastering basic filmmaking skills can provide a voice for the people closest to wildlife to offer their ideas and points-of-view on the global discussion of conservation issues. David McGowan has applied his career experience to a one-month training course in Rwanda for rangers, trackers, and guides to master basic wildlife filmmaking. The course was offered in Musanze, Rwanda, in 2022 and 2023. The students have now produced several films on important conservation topics and continue to expand on their training. The students and McGowan meet weekly over Zoom to discuss upcoming projects. The wildlife filmmaking community is growing in Rwanda.

See you there!
