About Event

As you venture towards Toronto's waterfront, you see streets advertising a shoreline that never appears: "Front Street", "Lakeshore Boulevard", "Harbour Street", "The Esplanade". None of these streets touch the water. Why so many false flags?

The reason is that, for the past 200 years, Toronto's waterfront has been steadily creeping outward. We have transformed water into solid land, expanding our city into Lake Ontario.

On this tour, we will traverse Toronto's original waterfront. The route will be fully accessible, the paths will be paved, and the pace will be more moderate than my typical tours. Along the way, we will explore several landmarks to disability history in the city.

Duration: 2hrs. We will take a 15-20 minute break in the middle at Harborfront Center to use the restroom and buy snacks.

Location: The tour begins at The Eternal Flame of Hope in David Pecaut Square. The closest subway station is St. Andrew, which is a short five minute roll/walk away. The King streetcar also has a stop at David Pecaut Square. The tour concludes at Union Station. Both stations are accessible and have elevators between platform and concourse level.

Price: This tour operates on a pay-what-you-can basis. At the end of the tour, you can pay whatever you feel the tour was worth (cash or card both accepted). Most guests choose to pay between $25 - $40 per person.

Accessibility: This tour takes place on city sidewalks in the downtown core and does not involve any stairs. It is therefore accessible for most types of mobility devices, wheelchairs, etc. Please indicate on your registration form if you have specific questions or access needs.
