c3s Creative Coding Crafts Space meetup #6: Animate anything with GSAP
Join us in exploring, quite likely, the most popular animation library for the web - GSAP. The session will start from making simple DOM elements move and spin, and go all the way to morphing SVGs, canvas-based animations of thousands of shapes and even some fun 3D in Three.js. GSAP’s API is intuitive and standardised, and you will be animating awesome stuff in no time. Bring along any sketch or website you’ve worked on or are working on. Try to animate it in the wackiest way you can think of, or however you like! Have a look at their incredible showcase for inspiration.
The workshop will be led by Dea, who has a knack for finding a way to sneak in GSAP into most of her projects. Like this one, or this one or this one. She’s very excited by GSAP’s recent announcement that it is now completely free, including all the fun plugins.
📋 Schedule
2:00~2:20 - Intro and announcements from c3s.
2:20-3:00 -Introduction to GSAP, along with some cool examples. Basics of GSAP workflows, including DOM animations, followed by animating and morphing SVGs.
3:10-3:30 - Short break / Start work on animating one of your existing / WIP projects.
3:30-4:30 - Techniques for animating Canvas and p5.js sketches. Time permitting, quick Three.js examples.
4:30-4:45 - Resources, closing remarks.
4:45-close - Continue work on animating one of your existing / WIP projects, on your own or collaboratively. We’ll project anything you want us to on the big screen.
🌸 About c3s
Creative coding crafts space embodies the notion of making space - physical space, head space, collaboration space - where we can get together and craft coding projects, generative artwork, new or ‘traditional’ forms of creative coding projects: anything that is born out of the interactions and inspiration that ‘space’ allows for.
We aim to meet about once a month in or around Hackney Wick - an area known for its large artistic community and a Creative Enterprise Zone. We kick things off with a couple of hours of structured content—introducing a new topic or tool, going through live demos, etc. After that, you can choose to stay and delve deeper into the topic of the day, work on your own projects or collaborate with others.

📍About the venue & house keeping
The Cave is a community-focused creative hub + coworking space based in the basement of Algha Works in the creative district of Fish Island/Hackney Wick. The venue is spacious and lovely, and they have generously agreed to let us use it as a co-working space (free, just please buy a drink from the cafe ☕) until closing time after our main workshop!
