BPC Mastermind Podcast: Macro Outlook 2023 Pt2
Recently, the corporate environment has been dominated by macroeconomic and geopolitical unpredictability, which has put management teams to the test in ways that may have previously appeared unthinkable. The energy price decline, the slowing of inflation, and the apparent stability of economic development, however, mark the beginning of 2023. These encouraging signals encourage us to assume a more constrained range of possible macro outcomes and, like in each new year, to look for a fresh start.
On Sunday, China announced a modest 5% economic growth goal for this year as it opened the National People's Congress (NPC) annual session, which is expected to usher in the country's most significant political reorganization in a decade.
The unemployment rate in the United States fell to a more than 53-1/2-year low of 3.4% in January, indicating a consistently strong labor market and posing a potential challenge for Federal Reserve officials battling inflation.
We view 2023 as a test to evaluate if such a new beginning is now feasible. Let's discuss more in this week podcast with our returning guest from HBS, Randy Cohen.
