Flower Open-Source Federated AI — MLSys Social

​Flower Labs is hosting a casual social event for everyone interested in open-source AI that is either federated, decentralized, on-device or privacy-preserving. These key ideas are quickly combining to enable an AI future that is open, collaborative and distributed! 🚀 (e.g., see our recent Wired feature)

Flower Labs will provide plenty of food, drinks and our famous Flower swag for all. Everything will kick-off at 7:30pm and will run into the night. We have taken over the lounge and game room of a fun tap-room brewery and kitchen nearby to the MLSys conference venue — only 5 mins drive, around 3.2 km. 20+ beers will be on-tap, as well as other drinks. You will also find mix of video games, pool, pin-ball machines and more. We are told the house speciality is amazing Detroit-style pizza.

​As MLSys 2025 is in town this week, we wanted to take the opportunity to connect with the best-of-the-best working at the intersection of machine learning and systems. But this event is naturally open to everyone — such as, members of the open-source Flower community, along with anyone curious or interested in where federated, and related methods, are taking AI next.

We'll be showing a brief demo/presentation of our Photon system, that is appearing as a paper at MLSys; Photon establishes a new SOTA in the decentralized pre-training of foundation models. This will be accompanied by some short updates regarding new open-source Flower tools for AI builders (e.g., Flower Intelligence), and pointers to how Flower can help researchers invent the next generation of ideas in this domain.
