Reproductive Justice Activism Through Art (Workshop)
The Michigan Youth Reproductive Justice Coalition (MYRJ) is a youth-led collaborative initiative by Michigan Student Power Alliance (MSPA) and MI Voices. MYRJ is a statewide network of youth organizers building power to win material and transformational change for reproductive justice issues in communities both on and off college campuses. The coalition is a monthly meeting space where youth ages 15-25 can unite across the state to learn, build relationships, and organize around the intersectional nature of reproductive justice organizing.
We will be joined by a special guest for an examination of the way community art and creativity can advance reproductive justice. The workshop will use examples from Ireland's recent fight to overturn one of the strictest abortion bans in the European Union, to use art as a way to bring communities together to counter dominant narratives, through sharing our personal stories and reclaiming narratives that center the truth of our personal lived experiences.
We will also discuss what utilizing art as a tool to achieve our vision of equitable and intersectional reproductive justice would look like in the U.S. and our movements.
Join us for this deeply important conversation and educational space that will open the current reproductive justice movement up for creative community engagement in activism!
