Root, Build, Liberate: A People's Movement Assembly
At the Root Collective will be holding a People's Movement Assembly on Saturday, June 21st from 10am-5pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Huntsville, AL. Lunch, snacks, and refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.
What's a People's Movement Assembly? Here's something from our friends at Project South:
"A People’s Movement Assembly (PMA) is a gathering of people to:
Collectively develop a political analysis of the current moment and the systemic root causes of our problems.
Come up with visions of the world we want and to create plans to get there.
Create and coordinate related collective actions, campaigns, and strategic movement agendas.”
Along with powerful conversations and collective strategy building, the PMA will also include music, arts and crafts, and space for healing, reflection, and restoration as we care for and celebrate each other and our community. Please RSVP to let us know you will join us! In our collective we recognize that movement building must center the voices and experiences of those most impacted by systems of oppression as we work toward collective liberation. All who hold the same commitment are welcome!
To that end and in the spirit of collective care and inclusion, we are requiring COVID-19 testing and masking for all in person attendees, which will be provided. These measures are in place to ensure that everyone can participate safely and fully. Registered participants will receive further information about this and other aspects of the assembly in the week leading up to the PMA.
