About Event

AI is changing how technology is built. How must our technical instincts change in response?

‘Æffective Technology’ offers a glimpse of tangible technologies that are platforms for agency, excitement, and perhaps even love.

Restless Egg invites you into conversation with a network of creators who are charting unexplored technological territories and building new platforms through creative experimentation.

We will highlight four projects, which embody new means of intervening in technological development at various scales:

  • Nephila – startup building a social OS for more emergent kinds of identity formation"

  • Tonk – vibe coding startup creating and sharing useful personal tools possible for non-coders turning proprietary data into dashboards, tools and AI agents.

  • fug.jpg – creative technologist building immersive and educational worlds exploring the frontier of generative imagery.

  • Rachy Mcewan – artist creating digital systems that reveal—and fund—the ecological value of urban trees.

Schedule:

  • 7:30: Arrival + Drinks

  • 7:45: Project demonstrations

  • 8:15: Panel Discussion

  • 8:45: Participatory activity using Nephila

  • 9:00: Drinks + special announcement

The evening will be a participatory experience of these new platforms as well as a window into how they were built.

We look forward to you joining us on 9th July.

Panel Bios:

Nephila (Flora Weil) teaches internet culture at NYU Shanghai, researches ecology-scale intelligence at M+ Museum, and builds worlding tools as part of Nephila, a studio that explores adversarial play, shared fictions, and anomalous forms of cognition.

Tonk (Baz, Goblin & Jack) makes creating and sharing useful personal tools possible for non-coders by powering up your coding agent. Tonk stack helps you and your agents to pull in diverse data sources (your notes, emails, files, etc) so you can vibecode tools like dashboards, report generators or CRMs over that data. In Tonk, you store all data in a way that's safely accessed only by you and your tools and where hosting is simplified; all that cloud stuff without any hassle, fear or devops confusion.

Fug.jpg (Fergus) is an artist and creative technologist interested in the textural qualities and internal processes of machine intelligence. He tries to find novel ways of presenting this intelligence, examining it for its particular quirks, oddities, mistakes and errors. His practice centres around the design of interactions, artefacts, and objects that view these technologies both optimistically and critically, using generative AI as a reflective lens on the way we think and create as humans.

Rachy McEwan is a London-based interdisciplinary artist and researcher whose work challenges human perception by exploring the interconnections between technology and environmental, political, and societal issues. Through her artistic practice and cross-disciplinary collaboration, she weaves connections between the natural, artificial, and non-human realms to reshape our relationships with the land and more-than-human entities, aspiring to adopt non-anthropocentric methods of cognition through sensory immersion and interdisciplinary approaches.

Restless Egg (William, Sam & Sylvan) is the incubator for artist-founders: those who, through creative experimentation, have found the limits of existing technology and wish to intervene by building their own products.
