UX for AI: Fundamentals for designing AI-based products π¬π§
βAI Product Design workshop (online)
ββ8 hours of intensive knowledge on the fundamentals of (UX) designing AI-based products
βInteractive workshop:
β2 days x 4 hours: Saturday (30.11) - Sunday (01.12) 10:00-14:00
ββThis workshop is for you if:
βββ You want to learn the solid fundamentals of AI-based product design from a UX perspective and how to lead the design process for this kind of products
βββ You want to understand, in an easy-to-grasp way, what specific AI technologies such as (un)supervised machine learning, generative AI, computer vision, and deep learning are about, and their implications for user experience in digital products
βββ You want to know how to critically analyse AI applications, recognize AI-washing, and understand basic concepts such as uncertainty, chunks, labelling, or AI agents
βββ You want to feel more confident in discussions with AI engineering teams (data science, AI/ML engineers) and know how to effectively collaborate with them on the UX aspects of the product or feature
βββ You want to know in which areas of AI product design you can have a real impact as a product designer and how to achieve this
βββ You want to know which skills are beneficial to develop to become a proficient AI product designer
βββ You want to learn about UX research for AI and discover design patterns for AIΒ
βββ You want to discover practical tips, examples, and UX & AI canvases
βββ You want to improve your skills and contribute valuable UX insights and observations in discussions about AI product ideas and AI features
ββWhat will you learn during workshop?
ββWe will go togetherΒ through 4 main modules:
ββAI Product Design Fundamentals
ββAI Technologies Umbrella & User Algorithmic Experience
ββUX/Product Designers collaboration with AI Engineers
ββIntroduction to User Research and Design Patterns for AI-based products
ββ[Module 1] AI Product Design Fundamentals
ββWe will explore how designing AI-based products differs from traditional software solutions, how AI products are structured, and what the AI innovation gap is. We will analyse the scope of UX&AI design, where designers can have a real impact on shaping such solutions, and which skills are worth developing to collaborate effectively with AI engineering teams. We will also debunk some myths about Artificial Intelligence and discuss the current AI innovation hype in context of the hype cycle.Β
ββ[Module 2] AI Technologies Umbrella & User Algorithmic Experience
ββWe will explore the topic of User Algorithmic Experience and various AI technologies (such as different types of machine learning, computer vision or deep learning). We will learn how selected types of AI and collected data impact the user experience in the product. We will examine the connection between the UX process and data science, identifying specific areas where we can design a better user experience. Additionally, we will learn how to map processes in AI products and recognize AI-washing. All of this will be discussed through practical examples and canvases that will help you organise this knowledge and apply in everyday design challenges.
ββ[Module 3] UX/Product Designers Collaboration with AI Engineers
ββWe will learn the basic terminology in the field of data science and how to build effective collaboration between UX designers and new stakeholders in the UX process: data scientists, AI/ML engineers, algorithm engineers, and more. We will explore how to structure this collaboration to engage them in the UX design process and shift focus from AI-first to user problem-first. We will use dedicated UX&AI canvases to help in this process. Moreover, we will discuss how designers could approach both top-down and bottom-up design processes when the AI idea pops-up.
ββ[Module 4] Introduction to user research and design patterns for AI products
ββWe will analyse which methods do not work well in the context of user research for AI-based products and why. We will discuss potential solutions to these challenges. During the second part, we will talk about newly appearing AI design patterns and how to verify their value. In addition, we will discuss how we, as designers, can contribute to the development of good UX & AI practices and design patterns during the current AI transformation.
ββWhatβs more?
βββ certificate of training completion
βββ 3 dedicated, tested UX&AI canvases that will help you in your daily design work
βββ AI Product Designer roadmap for your further skills development
βββ the list of recommended resources to explore after the workshop
βββ we will leverage the power of visual language to explain complex AI concepts in a easy, understandable way
βββ we will analyse many practical examples
ββFor whom?
βββ For product designers, UX/UI designers, and UX researchers at every stage of their career
βββ For designers working in product teams or design agencies
βββ For design leads and product managers
βββ For everyone interested in building UX of products based on AI technologies
ββWho is leading the workshop?
ββAnna Maria Szlachta is a product designer and researcher with several years of experience in innovation environments, collaborating daily with data science teams in Switzerland. For the past 3 years, she has been exploring the topic of UX&AI from a practical perspective by designing User Algorithmic Experiences for digital solutions, as well as from a theoretical perspective (The Basel School of Design, MIT). After hours, she develops the ValuableAI project, which aims to democratise knowledge about AI product design among UX designers. She advocates for combining practical experience and daily UX experiments with the latest available knowledge from top universities, and above all, conducting design critique of AI products.
