​Course brief: This hands-on course introduces students to the foundational technologies that power modern big data ecosystems. Led by Mohamed Hassanien, the sessions explore core components including distributed storage and processing frameworks. Through practical labs and real-world examples, students will gain essential skills to work with big data tools and understand their role in large-scale data processing.
Session Breakdown:
1. HDFS – Learn the architecture, design, and operations of the Hadoop Distributed File System.

​2. Hadoop – Introduction to the Hadoop ecosystem and how it enables scalable data processing.

​3. YARN – Understand the resource management layer of Hadoop and how it handles distributed applications.

​4. MapReduce – Dive into the programming model that processes data in parallel across clusters.

​5-6. PySpark – Explore Apache Spark using Python for large-scale data analytics, including RDDs, DataFrames, and basic transformations.

​By the end of the course, students will be equipped with a practical understanding of big data frameworks and how to use them in real-world scenarios.
