Join us for a "beta" test of an inclusive design jam where we will collectively examine, remix and evolve what it means to design for social impact. This will be a 90 minute workshop (10 people max!) held over Zoom.

 Explore inclusive design and build community with values-driven peers through structured exercises, moderated discussions and improvised workshopping! 

You can actively participate on stage as a "musician" or sit in the "audience" and watch. Or you can do a bit of both - choose your role when you sign up! We'll decide what themes we'll explore together at the outset of the session.

August Community Jam: Case Study Review & Discussion

(She/Her) join us to lead our September Community Jam! Kristin is a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), an independent digital accessibility consultant and a former Product Manager at Cariloop, a U.S. caregiver support company.

September Community Jam: Digital Accessibility Deep Dive

Uncentering Yourself In Your Design Practice

, Senior Product Designer at Spotify, in our October Community Jam for the Inclusive Design Jam community.

When Janey moved to Stockholm to join Spotify Design, one of her main goals was to learn more about designing products for the entire world, and not just the US and Europe. Over the past two years, she learned designing for the globe meant nothing short of undoing most default behaviors and assumptions she held as a designer. 

In this interactive session, Janey will talk to us about lessons learned in the process of critically examining and evolving her design practice. 

We'll then move into an interactive exercise to explore how each of us has centered ourselves in our design practice and ways that we can uncenter ourselves moving forward.

October Community Jam: Uncentering Yourself in Your Design Practice

This month in the Inclusive Design Jam, we will be hosting a "Free-for-All" jam session that will be shaped by attendees!

Come with your questions, examples, case studies and anything else related to inclusive design, inclusive research — send them in as you sign up ahead of time!

After a few introductory exercises, we will set the intention for the jam session and move into full improvisation and community-centered design to explore the topics selected by the participants.

This is a great opportunity to experiment with facilitation, improvisation and participatory design methods and connect with like-minded peers from all over the world.

November Community Jam: Free-for-All | Inclusive Design Jam

This month, we'll be hearing from two of our Inclusive Design Jam members who will share some fascinating insights and learnings from their inclusion & equity work! After each share out, we'll discuss our questions and reflections as a group.

The Relationship between Physical and Cognitive Impairments

Kristin will share with us data-backed, surprising relationships between physical and cognitive impairments demonstrating how wonderfully complex humans are and how every ounce of inclusive measure counts.

Imran will present a discovery project that explored the awareness of priority communities surrounding poor air quality within the borough of Southwark in London. He'll talk about the process he and his team went through and how an equity centred approach shaped their journey, and the steps ahead in a highly time constrained project.

December Community Jam: Inclusion & Equity Community Insights

January Community Jam: The Reflexive Compass

Centering the voices, needs and lived experiences of marginalized communities is essential to any inclusive design project. 

 lived experiences? What does that look and feel like for designers  and end users who are part of marginalized communities? 

 vulnerability can we encourage and where can it go wrong? How do we create boundaries and safety measures?

We'll explore this topic together in our February Jam session on "Lived Experiences in Inclusive Design."

This session will be shaped by contributions from attendees — we encourage you to share your experiences, your challenges and ideas, no matter your degree of experience with inclusive design. Our host Sandra By Design will guide the discussion through a few discussion prompts.

To allow for open discussion and sharing, this jam session will only be recorded if and every attendee agrees to it.

February Community Jam: Lived Experiences in Inclusive Design

March Community Jam: Trauma-Informed Design

Want to start designing for good but don't know where to start? Come and unpack the basics of inclusive design with us!

To help beginners get started, we've built the Inclusive Design Starter Guide, which will launch on April 5, 2023. This is a free robust learning guide on key concepts, definitions and practical examples related to inclusive design.

In this live session, we'll review the learnings from the guide, answer your questions, and show how you can leverage it to catalyze conversation on inclusive design!

We'll also give you an inside look at our free Slack community (with 200+ inclusive design practitioners) and our Inclusive Design Jam Academy, an educational hub on all things inclusive design.

5 Beginner Mistakes to Avoid with Inclusive Design

Join us for our April Community Jam for Part Two of our Trauma-Informed Design series! 

This session will build on the knowledge and skills gained in Part One, so we recommend watching that before joining (we'll send out the recording after you sign up!). 

This is a great opportunity to dig deeper into how you can incorporate trauma-informed principles in your design work through small group discussions. 

 —  two experienced trauma-informed practitioners who guided our last session — will be on hand to help spark discussion.

After a short intro on trauma-informed design, you will have the chance to join a small group focused on a theme of your choice (e.g. trauma & inclusivity in the workplace) for deeper discussions. 

We'll keep the main room open for those who wish to only listen and/or discuss a broader array of topics!

Our goal in this jam session is to explore ways to mutually support one another in understanding and applying trauma-informed design practices.

Over the past month in a small working group, we've been exploring what holds us back from getting buy-in for inclusive design.
