 Let’s get together  ONE LAST TIME, to network and engage around the topic of sustainable finance.

This talk covers basic financial literacy in a way that is engaging and entertaining. Tim takes the participant on a journey to achieving personal financial sustainability. We discuss budgeting for financial goals, investment basics, and how to avoid common financial pitfalls. Examples include the need for an emergency savings account and the difference between stocks & bonds. Ethical decision-making is woven throughout the journey, as participants learn about impact options like credit unions and community bonds. This talk is perfect for an audience that wants to level up their financial knowledge, and take steps to align their money with their values.

7.00pm - Laura McGrath, Shift Action: Climate and Pensions

When it comes to aligning their investments with their values, few people think about the power of their pension. Laura will walk us through why Canada's $2 trillion public pension behemoths are critical actors that need to be on-side with climate action. Whether you have a workplace pension or not, all Canadians working outside Quebec pay into the Canada Pension Plan, so there's something for everyone to think about when it comes to our public retirement savings. We'll discover why the climate crisis presents an existential risks to pension funds, how Canadian pension funds are responding, and what individuals can do to protect their pension and the planet.

You read that right; the speakers designed an engaging-style panel conversation that invited the audience to contribute their inputs and ideas. 

A category creating climate-tech entrepreneur with over 15 years of deep experience building & leading high tech. energy, IoT and Ag. Tech businesses - from startup to go-public. 

Michael has been focused on energy & resource efficiency, agriculture and how technology can be used to improve outcomes therein.  His work within predictive machine learning algorithms for cultivation optimization at Braingrid and now, supporting the rollout of Khepra's novel bio-based products that improve the soil biome and nutrient use efficiency, Michael continues his passion for technology and environmental prosperity as a way to rally policy makers and the agricultural communities, to adopt regenerative agricultural practices.

Dipesh is currently the COO at Vayda, a regenerative farming startup, where he has been since its inception in 2020. Based in Toronto, Dipesh has worked across Canada, the US, and the UK. Prior to getting into climate tech, Dipesh helped build and launch new ventures for Koru, a venture studio, and BCG Digital Ventures. He spent several years at the Boston Consulting Group working with Fortune 500 companies on a variety of strategic topics. Dipesh graduated from Queen’s University and has spent time studying at the HEC School of Management in Paris.

Kathrin Bussmann is an international marketing consultant and podcaster, whose mission is to help Cleantech companies scale across languages, cultures and borders. Through her independent consultancy, Verbaccino, she works at the intersection of global business, international marketing, and localization. Her focus is on helping growth-stage companies optimize their marketing & comms strategy for international expansion, and facilitating their partnership with specialized service providers who can implement the strategy. Besides running her own consultancy, Kathrin serves as a Volunteer Advisor at MaRS Discovery District and at Foresight Canada.

Alex's education combines Communication, Marketing, and Environmental Studies, which have helped him be able to speak confidently on the doom and bloom of the climate crisis, addressing both critical issues and innovative solutions. Alex's debut documentary, Humans and Elephants, is an ethical insight into the relationship between humans and elephants throughout Asia.

Haley is a Toronto-based innovation designer specializing in human-centred sustainability solutions. With expertise in design, entrepreneurship, communications, and urbanism, she helps organizations achieve circularity goals by creating transformative services and programs. Haley's work includes building circular fashion brands, establishing zero-waste workplaces, and promoting material reuse in the building sector. She collaborates across sectors and cities to drive sustainable practices and policies.

About Nikki:  Nikki Self is the co-founder of Saponetti, an innovative small business in Canada’s growing circular economy. Her focus is on helping consumers and companies reduce waste packaging in everyday home goods to support sustainability and the environment. Saponetti was founded by Nikki and her husband Christian von Seydlitz in Toronto in 2016 to offer zero-waste alternatives for home goods. It has grown from an online soap refillery to a storefront operation offering emission-free delivery and on-site refills.  Saponetti Home Essentials is a refills-only line of soaps sold exclusively in refundable packaging and is available at local retail grocery stores since 2022.

 Jason is a serial technology entrepreneur specializing in disruptive software platforms for the consumer and business markets. His current endeavour rCycle rewards sustainable actions of citizens and organizations at all stages of commerce to incentivize and enable a circular economy. Prior to rCycle Jason founded 40Grid, an enterprise SaaS platform for home services businesses and prior to that led intrapreneurial product and marketing initiatives at startups and medium size companies. Jason has worked in various industries and arenas including sustainability, pest management, debt collection, gaming, augmented-reality, toys, children's entertainment, and music. Jason is most passionate about the environment and sustainable business and believes creativity holds the answers to the world's biggest problems including the global-scale environmental ones we are facing today.

About Paul: Paul is a chemical engineer and lifelong environmentalist.  He spent 26 yrs working for Zeton Inc., the world's premier designer and builder of pilot and demonstration scale plants for a wide variety of different processes.  He is a process development expert, offering services as an independent consultant through Spitfire Research to an international clientele.  He helps investors make sense of which innovations are based on sound physics, chemistry and engineering economics, and helps innovators to do the right experiments, gather the right data, and take the right steps in scaling up their new technology.  His particular focus is on transitioning our economy away from burning fossils as fuels.  He is also a co-founder of the Hydrogen Science Coalition, a group of financially disinterested engineers and scientists who help governments and NGOs understand the role of hydrogen in decarbonization- where it fits and where it's just a distraction or delaying strategy.

About Mallory: Through a passion for the energy industry and equipped with the IFRS FSA certification, Mallory supports companies break through the noise with clean, clear, and impactful communications. She is a lead strategist for major global B2B and consumer brands, identifying sustainability trends and white spaces, translating policy and regulation, and staying on top of the various industries and clean technologies.

During this time, she worked with a company dealing with sustainability and impact measurement for 3+ years, where she was the co-lead of an Indonesian online academy for impact measurement. Currently, along with her full-time job, she runs a passion project where she interviews people working in the field of sustainability for her podcast.
