Birding By Bike
THE BIG IDEA:
We're going to get on our bikes and ride them to some places where we can see cool birds! We're partnering with the Antiracist Collective of Avid Birders, so we'll have some friends to help us identify and appreciate what we're seeing and hearing!
MEET UP LOCATION:
SCHEDULE:
Pre-ride talk starts at 10 AM (please be there and ready to ride by 10
Roll out around 10:15 AM
Finishing around 12:00 PM
(this is a rough idea of the schedule, things may be slightly different depending on how many birds we see!)
ROUTE:
This route is a total of 5.6 miles, and is a mix of pavement and unpaved surfaces.
Since it will be early May, we could encounter some wet roads, or some mud.
We will climb a total of 150 feet over the 5 miles, with a couple of shorter steeper climbs. That said, the route is mostly on flat roads, including a long section on the rail trail.
We will ride at about a 5-6 mph pace!
We will be stopping several times to get off our bikes and look at birds!
ACCESSIBILITY:
There will not be bathroom access on this ride. We will be stopping several times and getting off our bikes. Some of the hills are steep and may be challenging for a non-electric trike to handle. The entire event will be outside, masks optional.
Please reach out to westernmass@allbodiesonbikes.com if you have any accessibility questions!
KIDS:
These rides are open to anyone! Bring yourself, your family, your friends. If you are bringing small children, we ask that they tag along in a child seat or trailer, unless you are confident they can handle the entire route on their own wheels!
WHICH WHEELS TO BRING?
The route features some pavement and some gravel. I would recommend a bike or trike with at least 35-38mm or 1.9" tires. This may vary depending on the conditions on the day, with the weather this time of the year things can change a lot! Please ensure your bike or trike is in good condition and ready to ride!
HELMETS ARE REQUIRED!
