About Event

Friends, you're invited to the first-ever 'Money Matters' fireside chat with the one-and-only New Zealand-based Simran Kaur, founder of 'Girls That Invest,' on Sunday, October 15th at 12PM in the Flatiron District of New York City.

Trisha Sakhuja-Walia of Brown Girl Magazine and Zehra Naqvi of The Z List unite to bring you an exclusive one-on-one with Simran to chat all things (cue the bass) money — a 'taboo topic' not nearly talked about as often as we should, but something that runs our daily lives and world.

Simran launched her podcast 'Girls That Invest' with one intention — to make money matters and investing seem less daunting to women around the world. She doesn't tell women what to invest in, she simplifies what the stock market even is, how to tell the difference between and ETF and an Index Fund and overall show that investing should be and can be for women and marginalized groups.

With only 15-25% of women investing, Simran has grown her podcast into a multi-million dollar money media company that has amassed over 5M podcast downloads and has become the world’s #1 investing podcast for women.

It's high time we get to the bottom of why we aren't talking about money the same way men are. Join us for an intimate chat with some breakfast bites + refreshments, raffles, selfies and more.

Signed copies of Simran's best selling book are available for the first 25 folks who sign up to our event!

Come with all your $$$ related questions!

A ticket upon entry is mandatory. A run of show and address of the venue will be shared closer to the date!

BIOS:

As a Forbes 30 under 30, Featured on TEDx US, Forbes, Vogue, Business Insider, and Oxford Women in Business, Simran Kaur's mission is simple: Putting money into the hands of women. Simran spoke the UK Houses of Parliament for International Women's Day in March 2023. Her best-selling book, Girls That Invest, has topped charts in the USA, Canada, UK and New Zealand, along with her 350,000 strong social media following and over 5000 students in over 60 countries, quickly demonstrated the need for more investing education tailored to help tackle the wealth gap women are facing.

With only a few words of English under her belt, Trisha Sakhuja-Walia immigrated with her parents to Queens, New York at the age of five in the early 90s. Displaced from her birth country and struggling to find her place, she’s been on a mission to carve a space for her hyphenated identity.

Years later, she would find Brown Girl Magazine while scrolling on Facebook for a journalism class assignment in college. Almost a decade later and a few media jobs under her belt, Trisha went full-time to pursue BrownGirlMagazine.com. Her primary goal in quitting her corporate job was to create a community-driven platform that she and her peers could truly relate to.

Having worked on a variety of campaigns with brands including Nordstrom, Emirates, Adobe, Facebook and Instagram, and having spoken at forums including Forbes The Culture, Yahoo’s In The Know, The Wing, General Assembly, Disney Junior, Columbia University, New York State University, Michigan State University, and Yale University to name a few, Trisha is continuously striving to amplify the reach of Brown Girl the traditional way — word of mouth. Finally proud of her hyphenated identity, she continues to find unique ways to empower young women living in the diaspora.

Zehra Naqvi is Head of Founder Community at Republic, Founder of The Z List, a content & community platform dedicated to supporting startup founders through the VC Fundraising process, on the Steering Committee for NYC's All Raise Chapter, and active angel investor. During undergrad at Columbia (B.A. in Financial Economics and Art History) Zehra worked at 14 startups of all types from Pre-Seed to Series B. The Z List is a community of 25,000 subscribers - 15,000 of which have RSVP’d to the events Zehra has hosted across the country.
