ClimateTech Coffee: Carbon Management & Nature-based Solutions
Important Venue Update: This month will NOT be at Lazarus. Our friends at JDI have kindly offered to host at their office at Springdale General in Building 5, so we'll be meeting there instead (and don't worry, we'll still have coffee).
We've got two great speakers for you this month to lead a conversation about nature-based carbon solutions, approaches and frameworks for measuring them, and the market forces driving their adoption:
Kevin Silverman from Kateri
Kevin is the Co-Founder and Head of Products at Kateri, which helps ranchers secure new income streams through carbon credits and other nature-based programs using soil sampling, technology, and other investments. He's a carbon markets expert with deep domain knowledge in protocols and MRV and has supported nature-based carbon solutions through his work at Grassroots Carbon and Soilworks Natural Capital. He has previously advised on projects spanning livestock, croplands, and forestry, and is a Forbes "30 Under 30" awardee for his work at Kateri
Luke Hawbaker from Carbon Direct
Luke is the Director of Offtake at Carbon Direct, a science-based carbon management company providing carbon measurement, reduction, and removal services. As Director of Offtake, Luke Hawbaker leads Carbon Direct’s engagement with carbon removal buyers on long-term offtake structuring and near-term carbon purchases. Before joining Carbon Direct, Luke built his career in conservation and innovative finance. He worked for The Nature Conservancy for five years in its Chief Conservation Office, helping lead program evaluation around the globe and launching and running a +$30M internal impact fund. After TNC, he worked in forest carbon project development, driving business development and partnerships for Mast Reforestation, a vertically-integrated reforestation company.
ABOUT CLIMATETECH COFFEE:
ClimateTech Coffee is an informal meetup to learn and connect with people passionate about reversing climate change.
You can expect one or two short, deck-less lightning talks from a local business leader, policy expert, or researcher to share what they're working on and what they're excited about, followed by an open conversation with the audience.
Whether you're just starting your climate journey or you've been working in the field for years, everyone is welcome.
