Winter rain has caused extensive damage to LA County trails, including flooding, landslides, significant trail erosion and rutting, and downed trees. While the rain has been great for thirsty plants in our parks and natural areas, rain has also led to an explosion of invasive weeds. These weeds are covering trails and choking out native plants. When weeds dry out in the hot summer months, they become a fire hazard. We need your help to reduce weed growth along our trails. Activities will include:
• Pruning and cutting back overgrown vegetation covering the trail
• Removing invasive weeds harming native habitat
• Light trail repair to improve safety and drainage
Merrell & Parks Project are excited to honor and preserve the trails at Kenneth Hahn which offer us a vital escape to nature, where we can hike, connect with the environment, and feel the earth breathe.
Special thanks to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), who have played a vital role in bringing this wonderful initiative together!
Join us in ensuring that we Leave it Better™ for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts for the summer season and for many adventures to come.
