The Role of Nature Based Carbon Credits in Corporate Climate and Nature Strategies
The world’s forests are critical for climate and nature, acting as carbon sinks, preserving biodiversity, and supporting over 1.6 billion people who depend on them for their livelihoods1. Yet, deforestation continues at alarming rates, and urgent action is needed to halt and reverse forest loss.
COP 30 will take place in Belém, Brazil in the heart of the Amazon, with forest protection and preservation at the top of the agenda. This offers an opportunity for corporates to demonstrate real climate leadership through innovative approaches and collaborations – protecting and restoring forests to support nature, climate and people.
As one of the first major climate and nature gatherings of the year, the inaugural DC Climate Week is set to be an important milestone on the road to Belém. This interactive panel session will feature speakers from project developer Terraformation and Jurisdictional initiative, the LEAF Coalition, along with corporates who are already investing in protecting forests and leading NGOs to discuss:
Why forests matter and why protection and restoration makes good sense for corporates
How corporates can support forest protection and advance their ESG and net-zero goals with high integrity carbon credits
What makes a high-quality forestry carbon project or program
Options for demonstrating climate leadership on the Road to Belém
