About Event

In this webinar, Dr. Sean McCandless (Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Doctorate in Public Administration program, UIS Department of Public Administration) will present on his co-edited book Achieving Social Equity: From Problems to Solutions.

Social equity is one of the pillars of public administration alongside efficiency, effectiveness, and economy. In other words, public services must be fair for all. However, public service institutions have often created, maintained, and/or exacerbated inequities like racism, white supremacy, sexism, homo- and trans-phobia, and more. This presentation will examine two broad topics. First, it will examine what is currently known about how multiple administrative and policy factors at several levels—systemic, institutional, group, and individual—interact to create the aforementioned inequities. Second, it will review promising strategies public service agencies can undertake to name, blame, and claim those inequities.
