Handpan Playshop - An exploration in Rhythm, Technique, Improvisation & Nature Connection
Who is this for?
Anybody that loves music and feels curious about handpan drums.
Beginners that want to experience playing this unique instrument.
More experienced musicians that want to enhance and expand their musical talents by exploring different rhythms and drumming techniques that the handpans provide.
Handpan is a type of instrument originated from the steelpan that captivates the listener with a strong hypnotic attraction and has a unique ethereal vibe to its tone. It is considered one of the most advanced and unique acoustic musical instruments invented in the 21st century.
Some of the great benefits obtained from drumming are being aware of your body - by consciously realizing the connection between movement, rhythm, energy and the ability to focus, which is essential for any activity in our lives.
A Handpan will be provided for each participant. You are also welcome to bring your own if you have one! Shoutout to The Dream Factory Sound Sanctuary for providing several handpans as well as Hamsa Handpans.
SCHEDULE (this is a general idea of the format but the times may change depending on when we actually start, please do your best to arrive a little early)
1:30-1:45PM Arrival/Orientation
2:00PM - Meditation
2:10PM - Pick your Handpan!
2:20PM - Introduction/Demo by Misty
2:30PM - Rhythm and Technique lesson
3:00PM - Solo practice time in nature (1 hour) Misty will go around to each person during this time to conduct 1 on 1 support.
4PM - Ensemble/Share with group what you practiced
Drinks & healthy snacks + socializing at the end =)

About the facilitator:
Misty Marie Tomasino aka “Mystic Rhythms” was born & raised in San Diego, CA & lived in Costa Rica for 7yrs in her 20's helping build an intentional community / Eco Village in where she studied and applied the practice of transpersonal psychology, psychoanalysis, metaphysics, inter-disciplinary spirituality & permaculture principles. With over a decade of professional music experience & spiritual practice she blends her wisdom & talents into a unique path. She's a self-taught multi-instrumentalist sound healer & sacred song carrier and since 2019, Misty has been strongly called into plant medicine ceremonies. First as a participant then quickly invited in as a guardian & musical support for various groups within southern california. She has found this to be one of the most rewarding ways of sharing her gifts. Guided by the rhythm of her heart; Misty dedicates her music to Great Spirit, Mother Earth, and the Human Heart, creating environments for deep healing, peace, and ecstatic joy.
