Venture Forth is a panel discussion hosted by ThinkSuite where we will address how startups scale from early to late stage, the path to exit and how IPO is not the only end game.

In a discussion moderated by Richard Mak, come learn from our experienced panelists Allen Lau and Jeremy Tan as they discuss the VC asset class and what leading investors are looking for in a startup as they peel back the curtain on their decision-making process.

About Richard Mak

Richard Mak is a VP & Partner at ThinkSuite Inc. – an ecosystem creating powerful curated communities, making targeted connections, and delivering thought leadership in private equity, venture capital, and family offices, with a focus on ESG, climate, and sustainability.

He is also the Chief Investment Officer at Highland Family Office – a single Family Office with investments in equity, hedge funds, alternative assets, private equity, and fixed income.

He has over 32 years of experience in portfolio management, specializing in public and private equities, and hedge funds; of which 25 years are with Single Family Offices, exercising fiduciary duties, corporate governance, and principle-based investing guided by the Investment Charter.

About Allen Lau

Allen Lau is the co-founder and Operating Partner at Two Small Fish Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm that focuses on the next frontier in computing and its applications. The firm is renowned for writing the crucial ‘first cheque’ to promising startups that later became world-class companies, such as SkipTheDishes, BenchSci, Sheertex, Printify, and Ada, among many others.

Allen is also the co-founder and former CEO of Wattpad, the world’s leading social storytelling platform. Allen directed a global team to leverage AI and data to disrupt the entertainment industry. Under his leadership, Wattpad grew into a community of nearly 100 million users, raised US$120 million from top VCs around the world, and realized a successful exit in a transaction valued at more than US$660 million – one of the largest tech acquisitions in Canada.

About Jeremy Tan

Jeremy is Co-Founder of Tin Men Capital, strong supporters and investors of the B2B community by providing insights on the opportunities and risks unique to the space and mentorship to the founders operating in it.

With a rich background in finance, Jeremy has developed a knack for creating win-win deals. His career has included senior executive roles at global MNCs like Trafigura Group, Thomas H Lee Partners, Morgan Stanley and Puma Energy, transitioning from a First-Class Chemical Engineering graduate at Cambridge to finance, and furthering his education at Harvard Business School. Over 17 years, Jeremy has had a hand in business investments amounting to billions (in USD) across the Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
