​The Front Bar Lisbon

​Front Bar is the new speak easy in Praça das Flores and one of the coolest bars in the area.

​

​When friends Georgiana Jipa and Sabine Spethling created Amor Al Dente, an Italian pasta takeaway, their aim was simple: “To have a front” for The Front Bar, a secret bar in the same space. Inspired by the “Sopranos” aesthetic, they set up a dark and intimate bar, hidden behind a speakeasy of pastas served at the wicket. The Front Bar opened in February, but remains a well-kept secret.

​The iconic series about the New York mafia in the 1960s served as inspiration to recreate the concept of the illegal bars of the time. Speakeasies emerged in the United States during Prohibition, when the production, transportation and sale of alcoholic beverages were prohibited. To avoid problems, these places operated discreetly and even their advertising required care - “speak easy”.

​This exclusive atmosphere can be felt as soon as you arrive at the building in Praça das Flores. Georgiana, a 33-year-old Romanian, and Sabine, a 36-year-old German, have created a project where one space hides another. To enter the bar, you have to knock on the door next to the window where the packets of pasta are sold. After receiving permission, customers walk down a dimly lit corridor to the bar's first room.

​“Hidden in the charm of Praça das Flores, our bar mixes simple pleasures with a touch of intrigue. From craft cocktails to vinyl music, each visit offers something to savour. That was our main goal,” they explain.

IMPORTANT: The venue is limited to 50 people so we will charge 5€ ticket for registration purposes only, which will be refunded on the day after the event if you show up.
