10 Things Social Purpose Organizations Need to Know About Community Care

Featuring Kayla Kurin

We often talk about self-care—but in the nonprofit and social impact world, self-care can quickly feel like just another item on an already overwhelming to-do list. What if we stopped putting the responsibility for wellness entirely on individuals, and started creating environments where care is shared, collective, and embedded in the way we work and lead?

In this session, we’ll explore what it means to move beyond individual self-care into community care—practices and systems that support well-being across teams, organizations, and the communities we serve. You’ll learn the true roots of the self-care movement, how to challenge individualistic health models, and how to build structures of care into your workplace culture and organizational systems.

What you’ll learn:

  • The history and original intent behind the self-care movement

  • How to reframe wellness away from individual responsibility and toward collective care

  • How to build systems of support and shared care in your workplace and community

  • Practical steps to create environments that reduce burnout and foster resilience

This session is perfect for:

  • Nonprofit and social impact leaders who want to support their teams more effectively

  • Changemakers feeling overwhelmed by burnout culture and the pressure to “self-care”

  • Organizations looking to embed care into their systems, values, and daily operations
