Clicker Training 101 with Alison Flegal
Join us for an intro to Clicker Training taught by Community Member Alison Flegal!
In Clicker Training 101, you’ll learn about positive-reinforcement-based learning, the science behind clicker-training, and how you can use it with the animals in your life.
Additional materials needed:
Clicker- it is recommended that attendees purchase a clicker, like this one from Chewy or this one from Amazon.
Treats for the pet you’re working with. Because we use a high rate of reinforcement (or rewards) in positive-reinforcement based training, make sure your treats are small, about the size of the nail on your little finger.
Speaker Bio:
Hi Petminded Community! I’m Alison Flegal (she/her), based in Seattle, WA. I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, receiving my education from Karen Pryor Academy as well as completing the Atlas Assistance Dogs Team Facilitator Program. I am committed to teaching without the use of fear, pain or discomfort, and therefore, I train using compassionate, effective, science-based methods of training (like clicker-training!) which create an environment where dogs are eager and happy to learn.
My training journey started with my service dog, Jack, when he was just a puppy in training. Jack made me want to be the best companion I could be, so I learned everything I possibly could about dogs and animal learning theory. Jack’s service dog trainers inspired me to continue my education in dog training, and I enrolled in KPA in 2019. I have since been helping humans communicate, teach, and bond with their dogs through gentle and effective methods.
