About Event

You're invited to an exclusive tour of the Coroner’s Court, a hidden gem of Oxford's legal history!

Built in 1841, this building housed the Oxford Assizes for over a century, witnessing countless trials and reflecting the evolving social fabric of Victorian England.

On the tour, you'll:

  • Step back in time: Explore the grand courtroom where justice was dispensed in cases of murder, theft, and social upheaval.

  • Uncover Victorian legal dramas: Hear tales of notorious trials and intriguing cases that unfolded within these walls.

  • Hear about the Black Assize: the infamous 1577 Assize and its impact on Oxford's legal history.

  • Learn about the Coroner’s Court: as a working Court, get a perspective on what happens today in Inquests held in the Court House Annex.

Join us for a fascinating journey through the past and gain a unique perspective on Oxford's legal heritage whilst enjoying cheese and wine.

Hosted by Nick Graham, HM Area Coroner for Oxfordshire. This is a fundraising event for Angela Mills (Bannon) who is cycling the women’s Tour de France one day ahead of the professionals for Cure Leukaemia.
