About Event

Description:

In this practical hands-on workshop, you will learn how to print your own fabrics using transfer dyes and painted paper. Working with the heat press you will be guided through a variety of experimental techniques, leaving the session with a selection of printed fabric samples for you to develop and build your ideas on.

We will be working with reclaimed fabric off-cuts and remnants that have been salvaged from the fashion industry.

• Enjoy a fun experience learning a new printing technique in a professional studio environment.

Who is this workshop for?

Suitable for all levels, this workshop is aimed at anyone with an interest in textile print who would like to explore a new technique or those looking to develop their creative practice.

No experience is necessary. A full induction will be given, and you will be shown how to use the heat press safely. Cutting tools and sharp blades will be used. If you have any concerns about using any of the equipment please get in touch before booking.

All participants must be 18 and over.

What’s included in the price:

All printing materials, fabrics, dyes and equipment are included.

Design support and creative guidance.

Light refreshments provided.

What you will need:

Please bring a folder or sketchbook (A4 or larger) to record and take your samples away in.

Inspiration material will be provided, but you are welcome to bring a small image or sketch you would like to experiment with. Basic shapes and simple motifs with bold outlines will work best for these exercises i.e. Geometric shapes, flowers, leaves.

It is advisable to wear old clothes and/or bring an old shirt or apron to protect your clothing. For your safety it is best to avoid any loose items of clothing as we will be working with electrical equipment at high temperatures.

Gloves - If you have sensitive skin you may wish to wear surgical style gloves when handling the dyes. Due to health and safety, we ask you to bring your own with you.

Food & Drink - Tea and Coffee will be provided, however food options near the studio are limited. Please bring a pack lunch or snack with you. A microwave is available. Any beverages during the class should be in closed water bottles.

There will be a short 30min break for lunch during the session.

About the Tutor:

Gina Pipet is a trained textile print designer with over 15 years industry experience within the luxury fashion and interior design sectors. A specialist in pattern design, she is known for her brave use of colour, confident geometrics and distinctive prints.

Since 2012 she has produced her eponymous collections of printed scarves, accessories and fabrics, selling products globally to customers and retailers. Alongside her ready-to-wear collections Gina welcomes commissions for fashion, interior and art. Her clients include interior designers, architects, buyers, contractors, fashion brands, museums & galleries, universities, and social enterprises.

Gina is a longstanding member and studio holder at Craft Central and is represented by Future Icons. She is a member of the Crafts Council and Make it British directory, supporting local manufacturing and small run production.

Booking details:

Workshops are non-refundable. If you can no longer make it on the day you are welcome to find a replacement to take your space. It may be possible to book you for an alternative date depending on workshop availability. Requests to exchange the date must be made no less than 7 days before the event.

If the event is affected by Coronavirus, cannot run due to Government restrictions or facilitator illness, we will contact you to rebook or arrange a refund.

Face coverings and masks are welcome during the class and will be worn by the tutor when in close proximity.
