Albinism Illuminated

​Join Meredith Talusan (artist, journalist, and author) and Noah Landow (Founder and CEO at Macktez) for an informal conversation about the widely known but poorly understood absence of bodily pigment known as albinism.

​Meredith works at the intersection of writing, visual art, science, and performance and has had many careers, from a dancer to a photographer to an accomplished writer. Her debut memoir Fairest touches on these topics and this conversion offers a unusual opportunity to be part of an intimate discussion on a deeply personal topic.

​During this conversation, we will review the fundamentals of albinism, touch on the essential science behind the condition, as well as examine the genetics and its effects on biology. We’ll also discuss the medical implications, and both the well known and less widely understood impact on vision and sun sensitivity. Lastly, we’ll explore some of the social and cultural experiences of people with albinism, including factors in navigating societal perceptions and embracing one's identity.
