Host Bio:
I am a pediatrician and epidemiologist, now retired after a varied public health career. This included 18 years with CDC working in Africa on HIV treatment, prevention and epidemiology, plus another 7 years in Uganda on the faculties of Case Western Reserve, Johns Hopkins and Makerere Universities conducting research studies on mother to child HIV transmission and pediatric HIV/AIDS. I also led an MCH training project for CARE in Bangladesh. In between international stints I worked with handicapped children and provided community pediatrics services in rural California. Blending research and public health practice has been a career theme and my wife (a social scientist-epidemiologist) and I were thrilled to be the recipients of the 2020 Campanile Award for this work.
Message from the Host:
My schedule is flexible and I could meet at a different time during the day if that is better for students. I would be interested in students who are interested in working with CDC, in international health and in the epidemiology of HIV in Africa. I would be interested in hearing about motivations for pursuing a career in public health and learning about prior international experience.
