Fire & Ice: Climate stories
Join us for a session highlighting the work of Greenland ice sheet research and wildfire resilience from two members of our local climate community – Skye Morét and Kayla Calkins.
With the rapid melting of the Greenland ice sheet and the recent Los Angeles wildfires, these topics are at the forefront of many news cycles and conversations.
We hope you can join us for a couple of brief presentations, followed by some warm networking, high-fives, and community support.

Skye Morét is an information designer and marine scientist. Her work employs data visualization and visual storytelling to critically engage people with the ecological complexities and dependencies of our planet. Skye recently traveled to Greenland to explore the complexity of relations between science and society in a changing climate. Skye led a Collaborative Design + Design Systems graduate program for the past three years and is now in the throes of finishing her remote PhD in Interdisciplinary Design and Media at Northeastern University.
Kayla Calkins translates complex issues across sectors, focusing on climate adaptation. With a background in insurance and disaster resilience, Kayla’s focus on climate adaptation grew from her background in insurance, where she saw the effects of increasing disasters on communities, the environment, and our economies. A wildfire resilience officer at the Climate Resilience Fund, she also serves on Multnomah County’s Urban Flood Safety board.
