Reimagining Care at Home: AI, Privacy & Personalization
An open evening hosted by Institute on Aging at the Presidio Enrichment Center, 386 Moraga Ave, San Francisco, CA, 94129 to gather technology innovators together with providers, academics, investors and other multipliers to reimagine care in the home.
This event will feature:
A presentation and fireside chat with David Lindeman, Executive Director of CITRIS Health at Berkeley discussing Global Innovations in AI, drawing on their recent global partnerships across Europe and Asia. The fireside chat will be moderated by Stephen Johnston, founder of Fordcastle.
A presentation about driving transformational systems change in health and social impact by Chris McCarthy, founder of ILN.
A presentation and discussion about the AI Care Manager Assistant design project, led by Katey Webber of IOA.
This event is an opportunity to reconvene and reassess progress towards this goal, and sharpen next steps.

Speaker Profiles:
David Lindeman, PhD
David is the executive director of CITRIS Health. Lindeman has worked in the fields of health care and long-term care for nearly 40 years as a health services researcher and gerontologist, conducting research related to health care technology, assistive technologies, chronic disease management, healthy aging, disabilities, dementia, community-based and residential services, health care workforce, and family
caregiving.
His current focus is working with researchers, entrepreneurs and investors on the incubation, startup, evaluation and scaling of technology-enabled health care solutions, including initiatives that address critical health care challenges through mobile/cloud, sensors/IoT, telehealth, robotics, assistive technologies and data analytics (AI/machine learning).
Chris McCarthy, MPH, MBA
Chris is a change rebel and healthcare innovator. He founded the ILN, which focuses on improving " innovation systems.” He led innovation at Kaiser Permanente for 20 years and Hopelab Foundation for five years, creating many award-winning and impactful solutions. His approach combines human(ity)-centered design, system thinking, and the art of gathering.
His work has been featured with CNN (Dec 2017), Harvard Business Review (Sept 2010), Bisognano’s “Pursuing the Triple Aim” (2012), FastCompany, the New York Times, and many more. As an author, he collaborated with Lyle Berkowitz, MD on their book “Innovation with Information Technologies in Healthcare” (2012).
Katey Webber, MPH
Katey is Director of Strategic Initiatives, at Institute on Aging, where she leads innovation strategy. Prior to joining IOA, Katey coordinated studies of aging and longevity with the CPMC Research Institute. Katey holds an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from UC Berkeley and a BS in Accounting from University of Denver. She began her career with PwC auditing venture capital investments and medical device companies. When not thinking about innovations in aging services, you can find her goofing with her improv troupe or flying down a mountain on her bike.
Stephen Johnston, MA, MBA
Stephen is a Fellow in Healthy Longevity at SOMPO Digital Lab, the innovation arm of SOMPO Holdings, a $20 billion Tokyo-based insurance and senior care company. He founded Fordcastle, a consultancy driving global healthspan innovation, and is building the Healthy Habitats cooperative.
As co-founder of Aging2.0, he expanded it to a global network with over 100 city chapters. He is co-author of "Growth Champions" and "Longevity Hubs" and holds degrees from Cambridge and Harvard.
