Coffee + Field Trip to Chinese American Museum!
Let's learn more about the history of Chinatown. This neighborhood has a rich history, and so many interesting stories of the people who lived here. The Chinese American Museum in Los Angeles is housed in the Garnier Building, the oldest surviving Chinese building in Southern California. The museum's history is intertwined with the displacement of the original Chinatown to make way for urban development, including Union Station and freeways.
We were able to book a tour for 12 guests at the CAM after much difficulty! We may possibly host another tour in September, depending on their availability.
There's the agenda:
9:30-10 am: Meet for coffee, tea & light dim sum at Studious Lounge, wait for stragglers
10 am: Commence walk to museum! Notable landmarks along the way will be pointed out
10:20 am: Get to museum, take a group photo
10:30-11:30: A docent will lead us through the museum for a private tour!
Walk back through Olvera street and pick up tacos & churros ( optional of course)
$ will go to coffee / snacks and anything left over goes directly to the museum to support their mission to research, preserve, and share the stories and contributions of Chinese Americans.
