About CKB Eco Fund
Nervos CKB is the first fully Bitcoin-isomorphic Layer 2 solution, utilizing Proof of Work (PoW) and UTXO models. Its main goal is to enhance Bitcoin by adding programmability and scalability through the RGB++ protocol, the UTXO Stack, and the CKB Lightning Network, without relying on cross-chain bridges. This aims to foster a thriving Bitcoin ecosystem.
Nervos CKB was founded in Q1 2018, and raised $28 million from top-tier investors including Polychain Capital, Sequoia China, Dragonfly Capital, Multicoin Capital, Hashkey Capital, Blockchain Capital, 1kx, and more. CKB mainnet launched in Nov. 2019 and completed its first mining reward halving in Nov. 2023.
In January 2024, the CKB Eco Fund launched BTCKB, a development initiative to enhance integration between the Bitcoin and CKB blockchains through shared PoW consensus and the UTXO model, to provide the Bitcoin blockchain with better programmability. As part of this initiative, CKB Eco Fund has also incubated CELL Studio, a blockchain software company. CELL Studio develops infrastructure and applications that enhance and expand the Nervos CKB ecosystem, including JoyID, UTXO Stack, RGB++, etc.
Since the RGB++ mainnet release in April 2024, CKB has seen an expansion in the number of projects leveraging RGB++ for asset issuance on Bitcoin. As of June 2024, over 20 existing ecosystem projects have led to a resurgence in activity on CKB.
